One Test Print - Excellent!by: dpm39560

I signed up for their service about a month ago. I've uploaded about 1,000 photos since then, and I ordered ONE 11x14 print to test their service and quality. The print arrived in a tube and the quality was as good as I've seen anywhere. It took less than a week for the photo to arrive. I particularly like their ability - available in their very reasonable premium account and in a two-week free trial - to set your own prices for prints for pictures. You can take hundreds of pictures of an event, post them online, set your prices, then send everyone at the event a link to the album you just posted. If they order pix (at the prices you set), Fotki processes the payment, prints and sends the photos, and sends you the difference (your price minus your cost). The premium account ($30/yr as of Feb 08) also gives you unlimited online storage and the ability to embed photos on their server into your website, blog, or HTML email, AND the ability to co-brand their album pages and embed them right in your own website. Not bad at all. Check out dpm39560.fotki.com for some sample pix.

I've been fotki user for several years and ordered variety of prints 4x6, 4x5s to 24x36 posters. same user name - feel free to browse my galleries:) Current deal: 4x6 $0.09 ! 24x36 = $12.00 !!! Need I saw more? probably not, but I will, anyway :) Delivery times have always ben great, and I never had any problem with any order. For non-pros the price vs quality is absolutely ideal. You can't get this quality from home printer (I don't care which one you got), and print-at-home route is simply not good for the budget. On the web - well, try finding anything more convenient and cheaper, when you do, drop me a note. For professional photographer working with color - well, if you know what you are doing in the days of digital, like color proof your prints, convert them to the right profile, etc. - you should be fine in 95% of cases. Print profile is similar to ezprints.icc profile, which is a fair standard. Well, my local pro lab has a somewhat better printer, but the price is x5 times more, so most of the time it's simply not worth it. This may obviously cut into your profit margin as well, so unless it's for the art gallery, I'd stick with a budget solution, it's very good. Whoever was complaining about the site being slow - that's not fair or particularly correct, I beleive. Over time there could have been one-two hiccups caused by changing website, but that's definitely not a reason to blast the site and the service. And if one is on 56k dial-up - any digital photography via web is a sloooow process, nothing to do with the site. The server is FAST. Fotki offers more, the interface and overall design is better than anything out there and the user community is fun to deal with. One minor thing in regards to printing, starting from the last year or so there are no square print options, if you are into a square photo format. This is easily bypassed by ordering larger size uncropped, e.g 10x10 will fit into 10x15. Can't complain way too much about that, the prices dropped even further when that happened.

fotki has many features and I like and would like to use many of them. I used it for a while now and also printed photos on it the quality was just fine and I thought it was good for day to day photos - I would not print my high quality ones or posters here. the real problem i had was the sometimes the site was just slow which was frustrating and a few times I found myself almost just closing the window and moving to another service. hope that will get better.
