| I sent in a scan of a painting. AdoramaPix website says
they would correct any image problems before printing.
The prints came back destaurated and crushed in the
packaging. I sent them back within 14 days and asked
for a refund per published policy. In the meantime, we
had to have the printing done locally to meet a
deadline. Later, AdoramaPix told me that the poor
results were my fault and incorrectly told that I
should have sent in a printer profile with the scan (It
contained an embedded color profile). Further, I was
told that they no longer shipped in round tubes so
crushing would not be a problem in the future, but that
did nothing to help my situation. I was promised my
money back but instead received a credit for more
printing. I have tried in vain to get my money back but
keep getting blown off by some guy named Herman who
does not return phone calls. I am now out over $300. |

| The best (I actually compared to 4 others!) | by: jitendramohan |

| I printed identical set of 20 photos at five online
photo printing sites and rated each photo 1 (Best) - 5
(Worst). Then I added all the scores for an overall
score. Also noted if a site got any 5s (unacceptable
quality).
NOTE: I ENABLED automatic image
correction/optimization. So, I am comparing not only
the print quality, but also the ability to enhance poor
photos and not mess up the good ones! Undoubtedly, the
results may be different if color/exposure correction
is not desired.
1. Adorama: Clearly the winner. Best picture quality.
No 5s. I think one 4. They use heavier paper. Option to
print lots of stuff on the back, including, date image
taken. The web site is so good, I would prefer to do
mass adjustments (specially cropping) online. They
automatically flag the photos that are not the right
aspect ratio. Then they give you the option to adjust
them individually or all at once. I chose individual
editing and it was surprisingly quick. If uploading is
a pain, they will take a CD or a DVD. I finally printed
2500 photos with Adorama, taking advantage of their 10c
sale. Otherwise it would have been 16c and I would
likely have gone with dimeprints.com.
2. Dime Prints: Came in second after Adorama. This was
a surprise as their rates are half of Adorama. Had I
not got the sale at Adorama, this is where I would have
printed my 2500 photos! Good color, sometimes better
than Adorama. There were only a couple of 4s/5s.
Website is so-so.
3. York Photo: Quality and service were good. However
no information on the back. That was a deal breaker.
4: Costco: Most expensive. All photos had a blue tint
and therefore many ended up with 4s and 5s.
5: Winkflash: Many 5s. Worst overall score. Many photos
brightened too much. Image name printed on the back was
very faint. |
