Reviews

I've been hooked on Siren ever since I started watching videos of it on YouTube. It looked so awesome and unique that finally I couldn't take the suspense anymore and I just bought it. And I haven't regretted it one bit.

Siren is a mixture of survival horror and stealth. And yes, this whole game revolves around stealth. You can't attack the "Shibito" without a weapon of some kind. Therefore, you're supposed to sneak around and avoid the shibito until you get one, which is definitely hard to do, especially since some of them carry guns. There's no light or sound meter in this game to help you out, so the best you can do is to move quietly with your flashlight off in wide open areas and use distractions to sneak past them.

Sadly, you cannot kill any of the Shibito, even with a gun. You can only knock them out for about a minute and then they get right back up. Well, I guess it makes sense because they're possessed by some kind of spirit. Still, it definitely makes the game much harder. Therefore, run away as fast as you can before they get back up.

Luckily, you have something to help you out with: the "Sightjacker." This allows you to actually see through your enemies' perspective. This is invaluable in determining where they're located relative to your position. You show up as a cross in their field of vision if they're facing towards your position.

In addition to trying to stay alive, you also have to complete secondary objectives and find hidden archive items to advance the story and open up other characters objectives later on. It's incredibly confusing most of the time, so you might want to use a guide when trying to find them.

Now, this game is a PS2 exclusive. We all know the PS2 has the lowest quality hardware of all the sixth-generation consoles. However, this game happens to look incredibly real. Maybe the creators decided that since this was an exclusive on a lower-performing system, they better make sure they do a convincing job on it. And I think that they did. From the movements to the surroundings, it's all awesome. I didn't know the PS2 could do this. I have to admit, I was genuienly scared when I played this. I hear these weird noises nonstop all around me and I don't know if an enemy is around the corner. And the graphics are dark and fear-inducing. It definitely leaves you feeling vulnerable and afraid.

This game is truly worth your time if you stick with it long enough. You have to think and plan out your manuevers to advance and survive. In a world of survival-horror games, this one stands out for its flawless incorporation of stealth and intense fear. One of the reasons why, to this day, I still have my PS2.

Well, to rate this game fairly you need to look t it from a different view. Unlike other games in the horror genre (e.g Silent Hill, Resident Evil,...etc.) this game actually tries to set a different standard of horror. A horror that's constantly looming and lurking.

This game is composed of little games led by different characters, and they range from the very young to the very old, the very fit to the very blind! Yes blind!. Each character has their share of strength, weakness and weapon (if any for that matter) and the missions are set at different times of the day (or night) in a (something went wrong type of) village.

Now, as I have read from other reviews on this page that the gameplay is frustrating at (or all) times, but that is due to the fact that they are playing the game alone! This game should not be played alone as I have discovered, but you should surround yourself with a group of people (family and/or friends) as each character may or may not appeal to you.

As aforementioned, the horror is constantly looming and lurking by the loitering "Shibitos" (zombies in japanese it would seem!) at the corners, behind the bushes or falling at you from the sky! You can choose to sightjack the "Shibitos" (as in tapping to their vision telepathically to view their positions) or opt for our (the gang and I) quick method of legging it! (running for the character's life!) since you cannot kill a "Shibito" by shooting or bludgeonning as it will only curl to slumber for a minute or so.

This game should be given justice and not be compared with the like of "Silent Hill" or "Resident Evil" as it really does strive to set a new horror standard. Just stick to my advice of not playing it alone and legging the character throughout the mission and you maybe able to complete the game. We have. Twice!

A Japanese friend bought the JAPAN version of "Siren 2" boy! does it look creepy. I can't hardly wait for the english version to come out so the gang and I could pull our socks up and start legging it again!

i got this for my daughter who is 16 and she loves it ! but she will only play it if i sit in the room with her lol !

Siren is certainly an experience...

It's definitely a scary, tough game. I agree with some of the previous reviews about needing a guide for this. YOU NEED A GUIDE FOR THIS GAME. The secondary missions are almost impossible to figure out on your own without one. Lucky for you, gamefaqs has nice guides for nearly every game out there, so you needn't go on the impossible mission of trying to find a published guide for this game.

It's a slow-going game, but I feel that adds to it. It skips around in plot, and a lot of the time you'll be staring at the screen going, "Uhhh...what just happened?", and "But...I thought...this just happened...what?" and "HOLY CRAP **** TURNED INTO A SHIBITO!? WHEN?!" but then a few scenes later, it will all make sense! It's an interesting way of telling a story.

It has some EXTREMELY difficult levels. The dreaded timed levels and "protect so-and-so" levels are present in this game. I hated those levels. There have been times when I've thrown the controller across the room and nearly given up on the game. But these levels ARE possible, even more so with a gameshark and a guide, hehe.

I would recommend this game for those who loved Silent Hill. I've seen it happen so many times: friends of mine who loved Silent Hill liked this game, and those who did not like Silent Hill, or had never played it, thought it was boring and too hard. The game was made by some of the same people behind Silent Hill (Team Silent and Team Siren share lots of geniuses) and if you're comfortable with Silent Hill, you'll probably appreciate this game a lot more.

This is not a short game by any means, and not an easy one all the time, but it is a SCARY one, and a fun one, if you really let yourself get into it.

It definitely has its drawbacks...you hardly ever get the same weapon twice, you have no health meter, no health items, your enemies never die- just rest, and the voice acting is HORRIBLE. Obviously Japanese characters with accents straight out of Harry Potter? It's just wrong.

It's also really frickin nerve-wracking. After playing nearly every Survival Horror game on the market, it takes a bit to get my blood-pressure up, but this game definitely delivered.

So, if you're a more experienced gamer looking for a definitely unique experience in Survival Horror, I would recommend it.
