As to hills, the Minimoto should be able to go up a rather steep 8% grade with a normal rider.

ReviewsI have been wanting a go-kart for a long time now. Now I am really starting to take action! Driving has always been one of my passions, even though I'm not old enough to drive. I would really like a electric go-kart because I don't want to pollute and I don't want to spend money on gas. Please let me know if the Minimoto Jeepster Dune Buggy is good,bad,ok or if you recommend any other electric go-karts. I would appreciate if you would let me know if there are any other sweet electric go-karts or if this Jeepster is a good one to choose.

The Minimoto Jeepster Dune Buggy is a well-built (mechanically) go kart but it is not what its name may imply. Its (one wheel) rear drive train is acceptable for hard pavement use but "off road" does not offer enough traction. Accelerator action has built-in delay that frequently causes young driver to "floor it". That in turn makes the wheel spin (on a dirt surface) and causes it to dig-in. The motor is of sufficient power but it is not provided with enough cooling. After 15-20 minutes of use you'll smell its overheated windings and you will get burned if you touch the motor. The frame, wheels, suspension, steering system and brakes are of sufficiently good quality. The battery supplies enough power for about 40 to 50 minutes of intense driving (off road) with driver about 50 lb. and it does take few hour to recharge it back up. But my experience have shown that after that amount of time my children have enough. The lead acid sealed battery works well in this vehicle but it does need to be recharged right away after the each use, otherwise it will suffer internal damage and loss of energy storage capacity.
My overall impression is that if the single wheel drive train were to be replaced with dual wheel drive (2 motors 300W or so) this go kart would be a real joy to drive on pavement as well as of off road.
I purchased this February 2007 for my 6yo son, 48inches high. He is good with his hands and coordination. Fully charges in about 6 hours. Very fast and fun. Quiet. We haven't tested offroad, as I don't want to break it. This is leaps better than Barbie jeeps (6mph), this goes 18mph. As fast as a quick bicycle. Very cool.
This thing is not worth a dime! Customer service is horrible,the battery wont hold a charge, my son is 50 pounds and if this lasts 5 minutes with out me having to push it its amazing, Go with a 4 stroke gas dune buggy i wish i did!!!!! also this unit is not made for any terrain except a flat driveway . Toys R Us was no help either, they shouldn't sell a low quality toy like this unless they are prepared to service it to make the deal right, 700 bucks down the drain and a very dissapointed 6 year old!!!
