The Lorex VQ1632 Varifocal Vandal Proof Color Dome Camera is a discreet and durable surveillance camera. Constructed of polycarbonate, the smoke-colored dome housing not only provides high-impact protection against potential vandalism, but it also shields the camera's direction from the view of any observers. This camera provides a good-quality image and has excellent light sensitivity, and it also allows for pan/tilt movement so you can cover more area. Easy to install, the Lorex VQ1632 is designed for primarily indoor use but can be used in shielded outdoor environments, and is well-suited to discreet surveillance at home, childcare, school or small businesses.

This camera utilizes a 0.25-inch color CCD (charge-coupled device) sensor, with 510-by-492 effective picture elements. Built with a four to nine-millimeter varifocal lens, the VQ1632 has a resolution of 330 TVL (TV lines), a S/N (signal-to-noise) ratio of more than 48 dB, and can receive a picture down to a minimum illumination of one Lux. Features such as automatic BLC (backlight compensation) and white balance, as well as the unit's automatic electronic shutter with an exposure time ranging from 1/60 to 1/100,000 of a second, help ensure an even higher picture quality. With the camera's 360-degree pan and 90-degree tilt range, you can monitor any area in a room. The VQ1632 runs on a 12-volt DC power supply (included), and can operate in temperatures from -26 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.

Quick and easy to install with a standard BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman, RF-type) to RCA video output connector, this Lorex camera comes completely assembled and ready to use and is dependable even in very low-light conditions. Users should note, however, that the CCD sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.
