Amazon.com Product Review

The Lorex CVC-2050P Color CCD Ultra Compact Camera is an extremely discreet video surveillance camera. Designed with both a miniature size and a pinhole lens, this highly compact camera is both easy to conceal and can receive a picture through small holes. This camera not only provides high-quality images at high-resolutions with a decent-for-color light sensitivity, but does so in a completely hidden-from-view fashion. Easy to install, the Lorex CVC-2050P is designed for primarily indoor use, but can be used in well-protected outdoor environments, and is perfect for secret surveillance at home, childcare, school or a small businesses.

This camera utilizes a 0.25-inch color interline-transfer CCD (charge-coupled device) sensor, with a resolution of 512-by-492 picture elements and 350 TVL (TV lines). The CVC-2050P includes a 4.3-millimeter pinhole lens that allows the camera to view through a 0.0625-of-an-inch hole. The ability to receive a usable color picture down to a minimum illumination of two Lux, and the unit's automatic electronic shutter, with an exposure time ranging from 1/60 to 1/100,000 of a second, help ensure an even higher picture quality. Constructed with a durable, black, ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic housing, this camera also includes a standard RCA connection for video output. The CVC-2050P runs on a 12-volt DC power supply (included), and can operate in temperatures from 14- to 122-degrees Fahrenheit.

Technical Features:

  • Sensitivity: down to 2 Lux
  • Lens type: 4.3 mm pinhole
  • Resolution: up to 512 by 492 pixels or 380 TVL
  • Operating temperature: 14- to 122-degrees Fahrenheit
  • Dimensions: approximately 1.125 x 0.75 x 1.125 inches (W x D x H)
Designed for covert surveillance, the Lorex CVC-2050P provides you with a reliable, easy-to-use and high-quality camera that can complement most any monitoring system. Quick and easy to install, this Lorex camera comes completely assembled and ready to use, and is dependable even in fairly low-light conditions. Users should note, however, that the CCD sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.
