I have owned two sony P&S and a canon P&S, and by far this is the best. The optical zoom is AMAZING. The 720P HD movie quality is amazing. The problem with the flash popping up is not a problem at all. It isn't even in the way. I was skeptical about people saying there is no zoom while recording a movie. They are WRONG. True, there is no OPTICAL zoom, but there surely is digital zoom, and there is NO problem with that. The digital zoom is VERY adequate. If you want a better camera for videos, go buy a camcorder. This camera is for pictures. The pictures are EXCELLENT!!! The only down side i could say is that the black is more of a dark, dark brown. I wanted a black one, but opted for the blue one, which is VERY nice. BUY THE CAMERA! This is a fabulous camera. Who needs an SLR? This one does everything. The IS is superb. I have taken portraits of people 50 feet away in dimly lit rooms. I use ASA 3200 for a lot of indoor work and get pictures not too noisy that are quite suitable for internet slide shows. I seldom use the flash. Excellent battery life, easy to carry. My only complaint is the time between pictures is a few seconds. Wanted a camera that had more versatility than our little Canon elph but didn't want the bulk of an SLR. This is a great camera. The images are very good but it is the ability to utilize a 12x optical zoom in a very portable size that makes this camera. Am enjoying it very much. Hard to beat a Canon. My husband and I had a Nikon Coolpix until I accidentally put it through the washing machine. We hated out coolpix, so ruining it with the washing machine was a great excuse to get a new camera. After researching different cameras in our price range, we decided on this one. And it's worth the money! We love it. It takes great pictures, is easy to use and we can't find a single thing we don't like about it! Camera is as good as advertised. Have no idea how long the battery will last as I do not use it that much and have had it only a month or so. Otherwise, it is great.
