ReviewsThe Pixma series--I own the 9000Pro---is a series that comes with many qualifiers. First of all, yes the photo quality is very good. BUT, you pay the price because you can ONLY use Canon copy paper and the machine gulps ink by the cartridge load. Be prepared to buy them by the gross. It's also very slow. All in all, I will not buy a Canon printer again.
I have owned this printer for about 3 years. I am a photographer, Web designer and author. Previous to the Canon I owned more Epsons than I can count. Every Epson had the head clogging problem and cleaning the heads to get a perfect print was time consuming and ink wasting. You can let this Canon sit for weeks, fire it up and print a perfect image every time.
I wrote a book and wasn't sure how it would sell so I started printing the front and rear convers on this printer. I printed the book pages on a duplexing, high speed HP LaserJet. The book has sold well and I continue to print the front and rear covers on thick photographic paper. I do this 100's at a time and there is never a burp. Every page is perfect and the print speed is very good.
I use various brands of photographic paper. In fact, I have never used Canon papers. I have my monitor calibrated but not the printer. However I make a slight adjustment in the image brightness and the prints match perfectly.
Yes this thing is heavy and has a large footprint. However, if you are looking for a commercial quality workhorse, this is the unit for you.
This printer has never worked for me. 70% of the time it eats the paper. With 11x17, 100% of the time is miss aligns the sheet. This printer has been an expensive headache. Next time, I will make sure to buy my computer equipment from a local store. Ordering from Amazon does not give you the opportunity to take it back if your item turns out to be a piece of junk like this.
When they say "Large Format"...
They mean it.
From seeing the box for this printer to seeing how well it fit into my computer setup, I have loved the way that this printer ended up working with what I needed. It is indeed really large, but surprisingly less large than an Epson or other competitors within the same category.
The print quality can be outstanding as long as you know what you're doing; though even if you're using the Windows print drivers photos will turn out fine.
Ink prices can get to be a little steep, but honestly, you won't be buying that much ink unless you print 50 photos on a weekly basis. These are the longest lasting ink cartridges I've bought. The prints do not have an odd smell to them, or crinkle the paper as I have seen with other printers.
This printer is probably one of the best to ratchet up your photo printing with. Starting a photography business? Buy this printer, learn what makes prints beautiful and you'll be set.
I LOVE this printer! The photos come out totally professional and clear (of course, as long as you took a good picture to begin with). I print alot in the 13 x 19 size and they make people's eyes pop out. The printing is extremely quiet and quick....just be sure to let the photo dry completely before you try to frame it! (I got too excited and it stuck to the glass) Set up is quick and easy as pie. The only complaint I had was that they do not include a USB cable with it and for the price of the printer, they could of thrown one in. If you are in the market for a photo printer, you will definately be happy with this one.
