The Axis 2100 Starter Kit includes three Axis 2100 cameras, and a CD-ROM with Axis Camera Recorder software on it and three licenses for use on different machines. The Axis Camera Recorder software is easy to install and maintain, and enables live video recording to be done continuously, on a schedule, from an alarm or when motion is detected. This software will also send you alarm alerts by email or by notification sounds and lets you search for specific recordings by date, time or event. With a built-in Web Server and a direct network connection, the Axis 2100 cameras allow high-quality remote surveillance from any browser on the network, and provide full Web-based control of its various management and configuration functions. Connecting directly to Ethernet networks, or to your local ISP using an external modem requires no special hardware or software for installation or use. The Axis 2100 comes with a replaceable, standard 4mm wide-angle CS lens, equivalent to a 35mm lens on a standard camera with aperture 2.0, with rotational focus control that can focus from 0.5-millimeters to infinity. Backlight compensation, AGC (Automatic Gain Control), automatic and preset white balance, and exposure times ranging from 1/30,000 to 0.7 of a second ensure a higher picture quality. With five different compression levels generating high-quality JPEG still images and motion-JPEG video, the cameras can provide images at up to 10 frames-per-second (frames per second). Each camera has eight megabytes of RAM and uses two megabytes of internal flash memory that allow for simple firmware upgrades. In short, the Axis 2100 is a reliable, economical and high-quality monitoring system designed to be used over the Internet or internal networks in small business applications. Intended for indoor use only (the CCD sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light), this camera is optimized for use with Netscape, although Axis provides an ActiveX component for use with Internet Explorer. About Surveillance Camera Technical Features Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient. About IP Cameras An IP camera can be used to project images and video directly through a computer's Web browser for remote monitoring.
